Snapshots (SS) are a type of Statewide modelling project. They give you an understanding of NSW's current bush fire risk and an up-to-date risk analysis, incorporating fire history, treatments and asset locations on a specified date. The RMP uses a risk modelling approach similar to the BFMC level; however, given that BFRMPs are in various stages of implementation and underlying data may change over this time, they provides a state-level analysis with the latest input data.
Application of Snapshot project results
Statewide data reflecting current risk is critical to fire practitioners in supporting decision-making, identifying areas of unacceptable risk for prioritisation and highlighting areas of opportunities. Snapshot projects can also provide insight into the effectiveness of previous hazard reduction activities and prompt fire practitioners to query past treated areas using supplementary project data from the Annual Works Plan Evaluation or initiate new BFRMP projects.
Snapshot projects also provide the baseline data that the RMP uses to generate Change in Risk products for Individual Treatment Comparisons and Brigade Treatment Comparison.
Scenarios
There is one type of modelling scenario in a Snapshot modelling project:
Current Risk (code = CR). The Current Risk scenario assesses the fire risk starting on January 1st for the following year with no proposed treatments.
Runs
Snapshot projects have both Fire Behaviour runs and Impact Analysis runs.
Inputs and configurations
Modified Fire History
Snapshot projects require you to upload Modified Fire History during setup. Once you complete setup, the RMP automatically creates the first Current Risk scenario run using default inputs and configurations, apart from Phoenix RapidFire input Fire History, which is deactivated and replaced with your Modified Fire History. You can override all other inputs and configurations.
Weather Regions
Statewide projects use Weather Regions. These are polygons that divide the state into sections to represent weather across an area for risk modelling. They may not align with existing NSW weather boundaries. Each Weather Region has its own Fire Danger Rating (FDR) values and weather streams. RMP admin users can update Weather Regions in the default settings.
Outputs
Snapshot projects have similar outputs as other modelling projects. For a complete list, see List of modelling outputs.
Running and managing your project
Different project types have shared tasks and features. For information on how to run and manage your project, see Common tasks and features.
